Some things don’t need a grand reason to begin.
A group of people who practice together, breathe together, and believe in the same things — sooner or later, they need to walk together too. That is how the first VYK community trek was born. Not from a strategy or a campaign. From the simple feeling that the people on the mat deserved to meet each other off it.
Kalanga War Memorial. Early morning. A Sunday in May. And when the morning finally came, it felt exactly like it was supposed to.
Bikes, Scooties, Carpools — And the Bonding Had Already Begun
The plan was to gather at the centre at 6 AM. And people did — some driving, some on bikes, some on scooties, some carpooling with strangers who were about to become familiar faces. There is something about the chaos of getting somewhere together that already begins the bonding before anything official has started.
By the time we reached the trek point, the group had already loosened up. From the trail entrance we started walking — into the trees, into the quiet, into the particular kind of morning that Dehradun does better than most cities. Cool air. Green everywhere. The sound of the city fading behind you with every step.

Before Yoga. Before Breakfast. We Swept.
Before the yoga. Before the breakfast. Before the introductions.
We picked up brooms and cleaned the area.
It was unplanned in the way the best things often are — someone started, others followed, and within minutes the group that had come for a wellness walk was also doing something quietly meaningful for the place that was hosting them. It set a tone for the morning that stayed all the way through. This community doesn’t just show up for itself. It shows up for the space around it too.
This community doesn’t just show up for itself. It shows up for the space around it too.
Moving Together. Then Sitting Together.
After the cleanup, we moved through a short yoga session together — not a full class, just enough to settle the body after the climb, to open what the walk had warmed up, to arrive properly in the moment.
Then we sat in a circle. Introductions. Real ones — not names and job titles, but something closer to who you actually are and why you showed up that morning. It is remarkable how quickly a group of people becomes a community when someone simply asks them to sit together and speak honestly.

Bananas, Herbal Tea, Watermelon — And Homemade Chutney
There is a particular joy to eating outdoors after a morning of movement that no restaurant can replicate.
We had brought everything — bananas, herbal tea, watermelon that someone cut right there on the hill, sprouts with homemade chutney that had clearly been prepared with care the night before. People passed things around, poured tea for each other, laughed at the sprouts and then went back for more.
It was a meal that lasted longer than meals usually do. Because nobody was in a hurry to leave the table — or the hilltop.

The part nobody had officially planned
Someone Sang. Then Someone Danced.
After the food came the part that nobody had put on the agenda but everyone secretly hoped for.
Someone sang. Then someone else did. A joke was told — badly, then better, then someone topped it. There was a dance, unprompted, that pulled two or three others in. Stories were shared — some funny, some personal, some both. Laughter moved through the circle the way it does when people have stopped performing for each other and started simply being together.
This is what community actually feels like. Not the curated version. The real one — slightly messy, completely warm, impossible to manufacture.
We Carried Something Back With Us
The trek down was quieter than the trek up. The kind of quiet that comes after a morning well spent.
But it wasn’t idle. As we walked, we collected plastic and waste from the trail — filling bags on the way down, leaving the path a little cleaner than we found it. It felt like the right ending to a morning that had begun with sweeping the hilltop. This community came, breathed, laughed, ate, and left the place better than it found it.
That felt important.

The VYK Tribe Takes Its First Step
And it felt like exactly the right direction
This was the first VYK community trek. The first chapter of something we are calling the VYK Tribe — a community built not just around the mat, but around the belief that wellness is bigger than a yoga class. It lives in how we move through the world, how we treat the places we visit, how we show up for each other on a Sunday morning when nobody is watching.
We will walk again. We will find new trails, new hilltops, new mornings. The group will grow, the stories will multiply, and the circle will get wider.
But this first one — this messy, warm, homemade-chutney-and-bad-jokes first one — will always be where it began.
